Daniel Morris
Ph.D. Student | Lucid Dreaming Researcher
Daniel Morris is a Ph.D. student at Northwestern University, studying Cognitive Neuroscience under the mentorship of Dr. Ken Paller. His research focuses on how auditory stimulation during sleep can influence dreams, with a particular focus on inducing lucid dreams. He also contributes to the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative’s Northwestern Internship, teaching Cognitive Neuroscience methods to visiting Tibetan monastic scholars.
Through his involvement in this program, Daniel has traveled to the Drepung-Loseling Meditation and Science Center, located in southern India to assist in the teaching of science to the monastic scholars. He is also contributing to research on Tibetan Dream Yoga, a centuries-old practice through which practitioners train in both waking and sleep-based practices aimed at developing lucidity and transforming engrained habits.
Daniel has also conducted research on lucid dreaming more broadly, including research on the role of lucid dreaming in problem solving, treating nightmares in narcolepsy, the use of mindfulness training to promote lucidity, and the effects of closing one’s eyes in a lucid dream.
In addition to his research, Daniel is an active contributor to the growing field of dream science, sharing his findings at conferences and through publications. His work is part of a broader effort to explore the intersection of contemplative sleep practices and neuroscience, with the aim of uncovering how dream states can be harnessed for mental health and personal development.
